RHA1000 Series multi-channel bioamplifier chips
Introduced in 2006, the RHA1016 is an integrated low-power amplifier microchip from Intan Technologies. This single-chip device contains 16 fully-differential amplifiers with programmable bandwidths suitable for many bioinstrumentation monitoring and recording applications.
The RHA1016 is not recommended for new applications, and is being replaced by the RHA2000 Series. Here is a one-page comparison of the chips.
RHA1016 Features
- Fully integrated amplifier array; no off-chip filter capacitors required.
- Low input-referred noise: 2 microvolts RMS.
- Full differential architecture from input to output for maximum rejection of interference.
- Low power operation: 1.7 - 2.6 milliwatts per channel.
- On-chip high speed analog multiplexer allows many amplifiers to share one external A/D converter.
- Lower cutoff frequency below 0.1 Hz allows monitoring of very low frequency signals.
- Upper cutoff frequency of all amplifiers set by external resistors; adjustable from 10 Hz to 10 kHz.
- True zero gain at DC rejects electrode offset voltages.
- Third-order Butterworth low-pass filter at upper cutoff frequency for 60 dB/decade roll-off.
RHA1016 Applications
- Miniaturized multi-channel headstages for neural or ECoG recording.
- Low-power wireless headstages or backpacks for electrophysiology experiments.
- "Smart Petri dish" in vitro recording systems.
- Simultaneous recording of spikes and local field potentials (LFPs) from microelectrodes.
- Portable multi-channel EEG or EMG recording systems.
- Wearable EKG monitors.
